Bei dieser Studie handelt es sich um ein historisch-statistisches Quellenwerk zur Statistik der industriellen Produktion in Deutschland von 1850-1911. Die vorliegenden Übersichten sollen speziell über den Bereich der Hüttenindustrie auf allen Gebieten der Metallherstellung aus Erzen informieren. Grundsätzlich wird die Sektoralabgrenzung der Stahlindustrie und ihrer Unterbranchen nach dem Systematischen Warenverzeichnis für die Industriestatistik der Bundesrepublik Deutschland, Ausgabe 1970, S. 37 ff., vorgenommen. Eine direkte Anlehnung ist jedoch durch die zeitgenössisch übliche statistische Vernachlässigung der Produktion von Halb- und Zwischenprodukten, die auf denselben Werken weiterverarbeitet wurden, sowie durch die andersartige technische Organisation der Stahlproduktion vor 1914 schwer möglich. Fast sämtliche Stahlwerke stellten im Gegensatz zu heute durchweg alle aufgeführten Produktgruppen her, ohne die in die Fertigprodukte eingehenden Stahlrohblöcke und Stahlhalbzeuge eigener Produktion statistisch zu erfassen. In der Montanstatistik existieren demnach lediglich Angaben über die verkaufte Produktion von Stahlrohblöcken und Halbzeug. Da eine gesonderte Ausweisung dieser zwei Produktionsgruppen das Bild der Stahlproduktion unnötig verzerrt hätte, wurde folgende statistische Darstellung gewählt: Jahr / Produktion in t / davon Fertigprodukte / Wert in Mark / davon Fertigprodukte. Die „Produktion in t“ umfasst die gesamte marktorientierte Fertigung, Stahlrohblöcke, Halbzeuge, Fertigprodukte.Unter der Rubrik „Fertigprodukte“ ist die Produktion von Walzstahl, der Stahlverformung, der Ziehereien und Kaltwalzwerke zusammengefasst. Weiterhin werden in den Tabellen die Anzahl der Werke sowie die Zahl der Beschäftigten ausgewiesen. Soweit quellenmäßig erfassbar, werden Haupt- und Nebenwerke bzw. männliche und weibliche Beschäftigte getrennt ausgewiesen. Themen Zeitreihen im Recherche- und Downloadsystem HISTAT Thematisch ist die Studie in folgende vier Bereiche gegliedert: A: Die Produktion von Schmiedeeisen B: Die Produktion von Roh-, Guß- und Raffinierstahl C: Die Produktion von Schweißeisen und Schweißstahl D: Die Produktion von Flußeisen und Flussstahl Die Datentabellen zu diesenn Themenbereichen sind über HISTAT frei recherchierbar und downloadbar.

This study is a historical, statistical source work on industrial steel production in Germany from 1850-1911. The present overviews especially contain information about iron and steel industry in all areas of metal production from ore.Generally the sectoral definition of the steel industry and its sub branches is made by the systematical list of goods for the industry statistics of the Federal Republic of Germany, edition 1970, p. 37 ff. A direct adaption however is difficult due to the contemporary common disregard of semi-finished and intermediate products which were produced in the same factories and also due to the differences in the technical organization in steel production before 1914. In comparison to nowadays almost all the steel works produced all mentioned product groups without the recording the own semi-finished products used for the further production process statistically. In the monthly statistics therefor there is only data on production of steel ingots and semi-finished product which were sold directly. Separately listing this product group would lead to a distortion in the presentation of steal production, therefore the following statistical presentation was chosen: Year/ production in t/thereof finished goods/value in Mark/thereof finished products. Production in t includes the entire market orientated production; steel ingots, semi-finished products and finished products.The category finished products contains the production of rolled steel, of steel shaping and of cold rolling mills. Additionally the number of tools and the number of employees are given in the table. If data was available, there is also information on main and additional plants as well as on male and female employees. Timeseries in HISTAT The Study´s Data are divided into the following four parts: A: Production of low carbon steelB: Production of pig iron, cast iron and refined steelC: Production of wrought iron and wrought steelD: Production of mild steel and mild iron The Datatables are free available via the download system HISTAT.
