Dataset for: Development of Two Parental Ethnic-Racial Socialization Measures for Parents of Non-Migrant and Migrant Descent in Germany

DOI

Our project aims to develop and test the psychometric properties of two new measures of ethnic-racial socialization for majority non-migrant parents and minority parents of migrant descent. These would be the first quantitative measures of parental ethnic-racial socialization in Germany, which would be useful as a new tool for much-needed studies on this topic. Objective: To develop two parent ethnic-racial socialization measures for use with German samples. Research Questions: 1) What is the factor structure of the newly developed measures of parental ethnic-racial socialization? 2) Do the measures demonstrate good psychometric qualities? 3) How do dimensions of parental ethnic-racial socialization relate to attitudes and behaviors such as attitudes towards various ethnic and religious groups and engagement in anti-racist actions? Participants will include 1000 parents of school-aged children (6-17 years), 500 of migrant descent (300 mothers, 200 fathers), 500 of non-migrant descent (300 mothers, 200 fathers). This is a cross-sectional study using an online questionnaire with measured variables.
