TIMSS 2003 collects educational achievement data at the fourth and eighth grades to provide information about trends in performance over time together with extensive background information to address concerns about the quantity, quality, and content of instruction. It is the third in IEA’s series of international assessments of student achievement dedicated to improving teaching and learning in mathematics and science. A globally cooperative enterprise, TIMSS conducts comprehensive state-of the-art assessments of student achievement supported with extensive data about country, school, and classroom learning environments.

Target population (students) All students enrolled in the grades representing 4 years of formal schooling respectively, counting from the first year of ISCED Level 1.
