In the study “The Contribution of the Banking System in the Greek Economy” (2008), the Hellenic Bank Association (HBA) analyses the operating conditions of the modern Greek banking system, its broader contribution in the Greek economy and society and the international presence and activity of Greek banks in the countries of South-eastern and North-eastern Europe, Turkey and Egypt. In this study, the challenges faced by the banking system are recorded. The study also examines the degree of Greek households' borrowing, the banking support of entrepreneurship, the nature and the extent of the loss of competitiveness of the Greek economy, as well as the adjustments that need to occur.
